U.S. Department of Education Makes Public State-by-State Restraint & Seclusion Information

The U.S. Department of Education has released a summary of state laws, regulations, policies and guidelines regarding the use of restraint and seclusion techniques in schools. This state-by-state summary is a result of U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan's letter issued to Chief State School Officers on July 31, 2009, urging a review of current state policies and guidelines regarding the use of restraint and seclusion in schools.

Disability.gov Assistive Technology Update: TechMatrix--Assistive Technology Tools for Learning

TechMatrix is an online tool for finding educational and assistive technology products for students with physical, intellectual and other disabilities. TechMatrix's search tool generates results based on subject area and learning supports, including adaptive devices, text-to-speech software, touch screens, electronic references and resources, multiple formats of text, alternate access to computers and peripheral devices (input and output) and more.

Disability.gov Education News & Events Update: Release of Education Recovery Act Funds Accelerated

The U.S. Department of Education has made available ahead of schedule $11.37 billion in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding. To assist states and districts with effective use of this unprecedented increase in funding, the Department has released additional guidance on using Recovery Act funds under Title I, IDEA Part B and Part C.
